OUR GREAT OCEAN ROAD ADVENTURE
My family and I went to Australia to see my grandparents last year. (11) ______
Dad had intended to drive, but even though he was used to driving miles without getting exhausted, he then read on the website that the road wouldn't be an easy drive, with a number of sharp bends. (12) ______
Our first stop was where wild kangaroos lived, and Dad and I were taking a walk when a big one appeared! For a moment, it seemed to consider coming towards us, which made me slightly nervous, but then it went off into the bushes. (13) ______
That wasn't the only wildlife we saw. I thought it’d be hard to see Australia's famous koala bears during our short visit, as I'd heard they were rare, but we weren't disappointed at our next stop. (14) ______ We just followed the tourists looking up into the trees.
Dad had booked a campsite for the night, with ready-made tents, for an adventure! They were actually luxury tents, within walking distance of some famous rocks and other places we hoped to visit. However, Dad also said the sounds of wild creatures would help us sleep. (15) ______ So I was embarrassed by my fears, and kept awake by the frogs! But we had fun making meals together - we'd brought food, as we knew there'd be nowhere to eat.
In fact, this whole trip was fantastic!

Carnival is a big party that happens all over the world, usually right before a special time called Lent. Lent is when people choose to give up certain things, like eating certain foods. Traditionally, carnival is considered the last time for people to have fun and enjoy themselves before Lent starts. It's a time for music and dancing in the streets. Some people think that Carnival has its roots in ancient Rome.
One of the most famous Carnivals is Mardi Gras in New Orleans, USA. “Mardi Gras” is French for “Fat Tuesday”. The party lasts for two whole weeks! Every day, there are parades with people dressed up in colourful costumes riding on fancy floats. They throw beads and other little gifts to the crowd, making it exciting. Mardi Gras is a big event for tourists, with millions of people coming to see it every year.
The Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is thought to be the biggest in the world, with millions of people partying in the streets every day. Rio Carnival is known for its awesome music, costumes, and floats. In 1984, they built a special stadium called the Sambadrome for the parades, but people still have street parties and parades all over the city. The parades are like a competition, with samba dancing, floats, and music. The event makes a lot of money from ticket sales and advertising.
Venice Carnival, on the other hand, is a quieter carnival compared to New Orleans and Rio. It's famous for its beautiful masks. There's even a competition to see who has the prettiest mask. The narrow streets of Venice are perfect for the masked paraders, which makes it feel magical.
Carnival is a joyful celebration, and it's different in every place you go.
