PART III: READING
Read the following passage and choose the best answer to each question.
HALLOWEEN IN VIỆT NAM
Halloween originated in Western countries, but it has become increasingly popular among young people in Việt Nam. Films, television programmes, social media and international schools have helped introduce the festival to Vietnamese society. It is now celebrated mainly in large cities such as Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City.
On the evening of October 31, many young people dress up as ghosts, film characters or famous public figures. Shopping centres, cafés and schools organise costume competitions, games and themed parties. Some children also go from door to door asking for sweets, although this activity is less common than it is in Western countries.
Halloween in Việt Nam does not always have the same cultural or religious meaning as it does in its countries of origin. For many Vietnamese participants, it is mainly an opportunity to have fun, express creativity and spend time with friends. This shows how a festival may change when it enters a different cultural environment.
Some parents are concerned about the commercialisation of Halloween and the influence of foreign culture on young people. However, teachers can use the festival as an opportunity to teach English and encourage students to compare cultural traditions. When celebrated thoughtfully, Halloween can help young people learn about another culture while continuing to value their own heritage.
