PART III: READING
Read the following passage and choose the best answer to each question.
THE TRANSFORMATION OF GREENFORD
Twenty years ago, Greenford was a quiet town surrounded by farmland. Its population was approximately twenty-five thousand, and most residents worked in agriculture or small local businesses. Since then, the town has experienced rapid urbanisation and its population has increased to nearly ninety thousand.
Several developments have attracted people to Greenford. A large industrial park has created thousands of jobs, while a new university has brought students and teachers from other regions. An expressway connecting the town to the national capital has also made travel faster and more convenient.
Urban growth has improved many aspects of life. Greenford now has modern hospitals, larger schools, shopping centres and a more reliable bus system. However, rapid development has also created difficulties. The amount of farmland has declined, traffic congestion has become more serious, and housing prices have risen sharply.
Local authorities have responded by planning new suburban communities. They are building affordable apartments, introducing electric buses and creating additional parks and cycle lanes. Nevertheless, experts warn that Greenford must control its growth carefully if it wants to remain a healthy and pleasant place to live.
