PART III: READING
Read the following passage and choose the best answer to each question.
IMPROVING PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN BELLVIEW
Bellview has experienced rapid population growth during the past fifteen years. As more people have moved to the city, the number of private vehicles has increased sharply. Residents regularly spent long periods in traffic, while buses were often delayed by congested roads.
To address the problem, the city introduced a Bus Rapid Transit system three years ago. The new buses travel in dedicated lanes and receive priority at traffic lights. Modern stations provide passengers with route maps, electronic information screens and protection from bad weather.
Since the system began operating, average bus travel times have fallen by twenty-five per cent. The number of daily bus passengers has increased, and air quality has improved in several central districts. Many residents now consider the bus a reliable alternative to travelling by car.
However, the system still faces challenges. Buses are overcrowded during peak hours, and some suburban neighbourhoods are not connected to the main routes. Local authorities plan to purchase additional buses, extend the network and introduce bicycle-sharing stations near major bus stops. They hope these changes will make travelling across Bellview easier and more environmentally friendly.
