Education is fundamental to shaping individuals and driving societal progress. While opinions differ on its primary purpose, the debate often centers around two key perspectives: workforce preparation and fostering critical thinking alongside civic responsibility. This article explores these viewpoints and make the case for a more holistic approach to education.
(I) Advocates for vocational training emphasize its role in equipping students with practical skills needed for various professions. (II) Vocational training and higher education programs equip students with the technical knowledge needed for various professions, thus enhancing their employability. (III) For instance, degrees in fields such as engineering, medicine, and information technology often lead to high-demand careers with lucrative salaries. By prioritizing workforce readiness, educational institutions can contribute to economic growth and stability, ultimately benefiting society as a whole (IV).
Conversely, focusing solely on vocational training overlooks the broader purpose of education, which should include fostering critical thinking and civic engagement. Education should not only prepare individuals for jobs but also cultivate informed citizens who can contribute to democratic processes and social change. Programs that encourage critical analysis, creativity, and ethical reasoning are essential for developing well-rounded individuals. For example, courses in the humanities and social sciences promote empathy and understanding of diverse perspectives, which are crucial for navigating complex societal issues. By emphasizing these skills, education can empower individuals to become proactive members of their communities.
To ensure that education benefits both individuals and society, a balanced approach is essential. While preparing individuals for the workforce is an important aspect of education, it should not be the sole focus. A balanced approach that encompasses vocational training alongside the cultivation of critical thinking and civic responsibility is essential for fostering a well-informed and engaged citizenry. By embracing this holistic perspective, educational institutions can better serve both individuals and society, ultimately leading to a more equitable and prosperous future. This dual focus will enable education to act as a catalyst for personal development and societal advancement in the 21st century.

BEAUTY STANDARDS THROUGHOUT CULTURE
Throughout cultures around the world, beauty standards have always been a fascinating topic. From ancient civilizations to modern societies, each culture has its unique perception of beauty. Whether it’s the hourglass figure in Western cultures or the fair and flawless skin in some Asian cultures, these standards often reflect the values, traditions, and ideals of a particular society.
In many cultures, beauty standards are closely tied to the idea of marriage, especially for women. There is often a lot of pressure for them to follow these standards to increase their chances of finding a partner. This pressure can stem from traditional beliefs that parents may still hold onto, which can negatively impact their children’s self-esteem and make them feel bad. The expectation to meet these beauty standards can create a sense of not being good enough as individuals strive to fit into societal expectations.
A woman’s ideal figure differs depending on the country’s culture. Tiny models are more popular in magazines in the United States, but in other countries, the women who appear in American publications are not considered beautiful. While some people believe that a slim woman is better, other cultures believe that women must be plump to be deemed beautiful.
Korea, in particular, has the most diverse beauty standards, as well as the ideal slender form observed throughout Eastern Asia. A pale complexion has long been associated with higher social rank, as has double eyelid surgery, which dates back to the nineteenth century.
Cultural diversity and globalization have brought about increased exposure to different beauty standards. As a result of societal standards, people will never be good enough for its massive expectations but acceptance of ourselves is the most beautiful type of beauty. Instead of changing our compilations, we should represent our culture in a way that embraces it.
